Christmas Eve 2012

In both of our families growing up, we opened the bulk of our presents on Christmas Eve.  Christmas morning was for stockings and the such.  We have carried on that fine tradition in our home, so after a lovely Christmas Eve dinner, we dived in to the present opening!  I really wish I had taken pictures of our Christmas Eve dinner . . . it's always nice, but we made it extra special this year by using Millie's Christmas china, having more traditional type food and using polished silver to serve it all.  We feel like we had a lot to celebrate this year!  It was a beautiful dinner even though I didn't get any pictures of it.

So, on to the present opening . . . we went a little overboard this year.  It was a fun year to go overboard!  Ian LOVED every single thing he opened and it was pure joy to watch.  Livvy LOVED watching the whole thing unfold.  She also loved the shiny green paper Uncle Joe wrapped her present in and actually did a really great job of ripping it off . . . all without prompting I might add!

Speaking of wrapping paper.  I borrowed the idea of wrapping each child's present in one particular wrapping paper so they all look the same.  I absolutely loved this!  Ian had VERY definite opinions about which paper he wanted . . . something with Santa on it, but not just anything with Santa on it.  We looked at SEVERAL roles of paper before deciding on the one you see below.  I was relieved I thought it was cute too!  I picked out Livvy's paper . . . something that would look cute with Ian's, but completely unique for her.  It even got Ian's stamp of approval!  Anyway, as much fun as it was to see Ian pick out his paper and to find a great one for Livvy too, I mostly loved this idea because it helped my 2 year old know which presents under the tree were his and it thrilled him to no end to find new ones every so often.  He loved knowing which ones were for Livvy too.  It was a great visual learning tool and brought everyone so much joy!  I can't wait to do this again next year!  Here are our Christmas wrapping papers:

Okay, so I guess I got a little bit side tracked.  Now it's really on to the opening of presents!  Ian got all toys and games, while Livvy mostly got clothes and pretty things for her room.

I can't believe Ian is old enough for board games!  We're enjoying Whack-a-Mole and Let's Go Fishing the most.  Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders are still a little out of our reach at the moment, but we're getting there!

Livvy gave Ian some binoculars . . . they are quite beloved!!!  Ian says, "I love my noculars!"

Livvy just thinks the whole thing is too much fun.  Especially the green, shiny paper!

Ian got a watch.  "Just like Daddy!"  Hooray!!!  And, the pictures on the right hand side of this collage are of him anticipating getting to hold on to the "noculars".  CAN. NOT. WAIT.

Ian helped Livvy open some presents, but mostly, he was too busy playing to help.  Unless she opened up something he wanted to play with!  :)  One of Livvy's best gifts was a figurine of an angel holding a baby for her room.  Poppy saw it and knew his Livvy had to have it!

Each of us took Ian shopping this year to pick out presents.  He picked out a watch, some Alabama football figurines and a jacket for his daddy.  He picked out this fabulous red purse for me along with some beautiful gloves!  It is really fun to shop with Ian.  He has very definite opinions and once he sees what he wants, there really isn't much changing his mind.  Vernon said that as soon as he saw this purse, he knew that was exactly what he wanted to get his mama for Christmas.  I love it!

Look at all that loot!!!!!  Oh, my!!!

One of the big hits of the night was this scooter.  At the very last minute, like 23rd of December, Ian decided that he wanted Santa to bring him a scooter.  Fortunately, Mama and Daddy already had one waiting for him since he had asked Santa for something else!  He now rides it just about everywhere he goes in the house.  Love it!!!

Another hit of the night was the kitchen that Mam and GranPappy gave to both of the kids.  Ian plays with it constantly!

While it was WAY more fun to watch the kids with their presents, I was VERY happy with my presents as well.  I got two of Grandy's paintings framed for the house and am so very excited about them!  One of them is the painting Grandy did of me on my 16th birthday.  I've been wanting it framed for a very long time and I finally got it done!  Grandy said she never finished it and always wished she could have, but I love it and think it's perfect.  A treasure for sure.

And, thanks to Uncle Joe for taking most of my pictures on Christmas Eve!
